Why Chef Drago Celebrates Dinner, Not Streaks
Short version: Chef Drago does not punish you for the nights you don’t cook. When you finish a dish, the app celebrates it with a big “YOU COOKED”, and that is the only score that matters. No broken streak, no sad notification, no guilt.
Streaks work, until they don’t
Streaks are everywhere: language apps, fitness apps, meditation apps. They work because losing a streak feels bad, so you open the app to avoid that feeling.
Cooking is different. Some evenings you get home at 9 pm. Some evenings friends invite you out. Some evenings the honest answer is pasta with butter, and that is fine. A streak turns every one of those normal evenings into a small failure. After a few of them, many people stop opening the app at all.
What we do instead
- Every dinner counts on its own. When you cook a recipe, the app marks the moment: YOU COOKED. Cooking twice this week is a good week. Cooking once is still a dinner you made.
- No guilt notifications. Drago can nudge you with an idea for tonight. He will not tell you that you “lost” anything.
- The goal is the decision. Most of the effort in a weeknight dinner is deciding what to make. That is what the swipe deck and the duel are for. Once you have decided, cooking is the easy part.
Why this matters more for beginners
If you are learning to cook, the first few dishes are the hardest. You need wins, not a counter that resets. Celebrating each dish gives you a reason to try the next one, and the next one after that, at your own pace.
Try it on a night that suits you
